Google has just pushed out Chrome 62 web browser to stable channels for desktops including Mac, GNU/Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
As usual, Google has updated the Chrome Beta channel to version 62.0.3202.62 for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
If you update the Chrome browser on your Linux, Mac, or Windows PC now, you'll get version 62.0.3202.62, a version that appears to introduce a more aggressive "Not Secure" warning for websites that still use the HTTP protocol instead of the more secure HTTPS (Secure HTTP).
Chrome 62 also improves the Network Information API, implementing network quality indicators, adds support for OpenType Variable Fonts, and introduces the ability to capture and process media streams from HTMLMediaElements using the Media Capture from the DOM Elements API.
Chrome 62 also offers a Payment Request API for Chrome on iOS, a new Ambient Light Sensor API that allows websites to adapt to changes in different lighting conditions, and a WebVR Origin Tria that allows developers to create Virtual Reality experiences on the web.
For Android 8.0 “Oreo,” the new stable Chrome 62 update sets websites with notification permissions in Android Settings as “Notification Channel.” Of course, Google fixed several vulnerabilities and bugs with Chrome 62.
Google Chrome 62.0.3202.62 is available for download right now for GNULinux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The stable version will soon be coming to Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as Chromebook users.
