CentOS Linux 7.4.1708: The CentOS operating system is developed by a community of open source contributors. Typically, CentOS users are companies and individuals who do not need strong commercial support for their operating system.
CentOS is a 100% compatible rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, fully compliant with Red Hat's distribution requirements. CentOS is for those who need the stability of an enterprise-class operating system without the cost of certification and support.
Since 2014, Red Hat has been funding CentOS, which allows the development team to maintain its open-source nature.
CentOS 7 is a great choice for home use, even on a laptop that is not Linux-friendly. It will work flawlessly despite the challenges. Addressing the challenges is also the downside of CentOS, as it lacks the support of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
Red Hat released Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 on August 1, 2017.Of course, as I mentioned, since then I (and probably all fans of the distribution) have been waiting for the upcoming 'Release Point' of CentOS, which means the main version of a distribution (in this case CentOS Linux 7) in updated version 4 from the Red Hat source code.
Today seems to be the day I've been waiting for:
The CentOS repositories contain all the updated packages for version 7.4.1708 as well as the official ISO images for the full installation of the distribution.
For those familiar with CentOS, the release of each new version is a big event, due to the slow development cycle that the Project adopts.
Below you can download the ISO you are interested in from the University of Crete server. Those who have already installed CentOS and simply want to upgrade it to the next version, can run the command:
yum update && yum upgrade
Download the ISO you need
Tip: The labeled ISO is more than enough for one installation, you don't need the larger files.
