Google: Cybercrime Prevention

Indicators of possible presence of malicious software (malware)

If you have malicious software (malware) on your computer, you may see the following symptoms:

  • Pop-up ads
  • Unwanted toolbars
  • Irrelevant Google search results or ads
  • Redirects from a website you are trying to visit, e.g., your homepage or Google
  • Appearance of a search engine that looks like Google but has an unfamiliar URL or logo
  • Display results from an incorrect search engine

Removal of malicious software (malware) from your computer or browser

Check your computer for programs you do not recognize and uninstall them.

Some examples of programs to uninstall:

Desk 365
Dosearches Browser Protector
DProtect
eSave Security Control
Extended Protection
Nation Zoom browser protection
New Tabs Uninstall
Omiga plus
Wysys Control

2. If you are using Chrome or Firefox, use the browser's reset function to undo the changes you see and restore your settings to normal.

3. If you are using another browser, use antivirus software to detect and remove the malicious software (malware) from the computer.

4. If the above steps did not resolve the issue, create a post on the Google Search Forum about your problem. In your post, state which troubleshooting steps you have already followed.
