Apple's decision to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 was met with mixed reactions from customers, but when it comes to partners and rivals, many are mocking Cupertino for ditching one of the most popular connectors on smartphones these days. And that's exactly what OnePlus did a few hours ago when it introduced the OnePlus 5, which is the Android company's latest flagship that's positioned as a direct iPhone rival.
OnePlus designer Diego Heinz poked fun at Apple during the press conference, not only by joking that the OnePlus 5 was very close to launching without a headphone jack, but also by revealing a poll where 88 percent like the audio connector.
“At the bottom you’ll see that we’ve removed the 3.5mm headphone jack. The elegance of the overall design is immediately enhanced. And who needs a headphone jack anyway? That’s what Bluetooth, right? Just kidding, of course the OnePlus 5 has a headphone jack,” Heinz said during the press conference.
More ironically, even though OnePlus is poking fun at Apple over the headphone jack, the new OnePlus 5 looks a lot like the iPhone 7.
The back of the phone looks like an iPhone 7 , and the matte black color makes the two look like brother and sister. In addition, OnePlus decided to install a dual-camera module on its model, bringing the OnePlus back to the iPhone 7 Plus in terms of appearance and features.
It remains to be seen whether Apple will agree with one of its competitors going for a design that is so close to its own iPhone, but in the meantime, it looks like the OnePlus 5 is doing very well on the market. Some of the versions that the company announced a few hours ago are already sold out and there is a high possibility that the remaining units will not be available in the coming days.
