3D printed camera

Unable to afford all the cameras he dreamed of, photographer Paul Kohlhausen did something unusual. He 3D printed a camera, giving it some of the notable features of his dream cameras.

Kohlhausen created a fully functional 6×14 camera , and without any prior experience with CAD systems. He designed the camera according to what he knows as a professional photographer and printed it on a 3D printer, based on a modular design, consisting of 8 separate pieces.

He named his camera PK-6142016, but it seems that in the end the nickname "The Mustard Cyclops Monster" prevailed.

The photographer combined some of the features of the Mamiya 7, Hasselblad XPan and Leica M series. He mounted a 90mm Schneider Kreuznach lens on the front of the PK-6142016. The camera parts are 3D printed using SLS nylon using 3D Hubs services.

Kohlhausen's camera takes 6 × 14 photographs on 120 medium format film. It does not have a focusing mechanism, and is always at infinity unless someone places rings on the camera to move the focal plane closer to the lens.

Of course, Kohlhausen aims to turn his creation into an affordable 6×14 medium format camera for the general public.
