Greek Chakra GNU/Linux Neophytos Kolokotronis announced the update of the operating system with the availability of many modern technologies in the operating system's main repositories.
Chakra GNU/Linux is a distribution that uses the latest KDE software. So, users of the OS can now have KDE Plasma 5.9.2 as their desktop environment, which is the next maintenance release in the Plasma 5.9 series.
In addition, users of the updated version of the distribution will be able to update to the new KDE Applications 16.12.2 software suite as well as the KDE Framework 5.26.0 Qt5 add-ons collection.
As part of today's update, users of the distribution will also be able to get a new kernel which has been upgraded to Linux kernel 4.5.7. We hope that the Chakra GNU/Linux developers will approve Linux kernel 4.6 soon.
The new updated distribution also includes some of the latest applications: ALSA 1.1.3, FFmpeg 2.8.11, Wine 2.2, GStreamer 1.10.3, Vim 8.0.0142, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.7.1, FileZilla 3.24.0, Bash 4.4.005, Samba 4.5.3, Wireshark 2.2.4, LibreOffice 5.2.5, QEMU 2.8.0, GNU Screen 4.5.0, GNU nano 2.7.4, GDB 7.12, Gawk 4.1.4, GnuTLS 3.5.8, Gutenprint 5.2.12, JACK 0.125.0, GNU Make 4.2.1, MariaDB 10.1.21, MPlayer 37916, PostgreSQL 9.6.1, Python 2.7.13, PHP 7.0.15, SQLite 3.16.0, and GNU Texinfo.
To update, simply open your terminal and run the command “pacman -Syu”, just like for the Arch Linux operating system.
According to the developer, if you encounter a problem during the installation (dark screen) you can switch to tty3 with Ctrl+Alt+F3 and then back to the Plasma session with Ctrl+Alt+F7. If that doesn't work, just wait patiently until the installation is complete, without shutting down your computer.
