♣ There has been a lot of talk about information security from almost all of the Greek media for several years now. Interviews on shows, news bulletins, conferences, conference participants, sponsoring companies, blah blah blah. Everywhere, on every corner, no matter what stone you pick up, you will meet a “Security Expert”. Have all those who participate, make statements, attend or sponsor conferences really realized if they have fallen victim to hackers or if their data has been leaked?
⊗ This all started, of course, when the “specialized companies” baptized their executives, ordinary IT graduates with 1-2 Master's degrees (WOW) as Security Experts. Get a “security expert” diploma, do some “specialized software” setups and you're ready!!!
You can easily install “A Antivirus, Antimalware, Antihacking, Anti*” Setup -> Next -> Next -> Next -> Finish or easily set a group policy rule in Active Directory, your career as a Security Expert is destined to be brilliant!
⇓ You know, ladies and gentlemen, Security Expert, Ethical hacker or Information Security advisor is something much deeper than simple application installations, configuration of commercial products or concluding agreements with giant companies that specialize (WH0T?) in IT security technologies with off-the-shelf ready-made products!
♦Not to mention academics. Suddenly, on any topic (from the hack of Britney Spears' Twitter account to the Spear Phishing attack on the NSA), that is, for every disease and bullshit, a Security Expert, a specialized University professor (WTF???) always has something to say.
⇓ No one may understand what he is saying, often not even himself, what he is saying may be known by a first-year student of the TEI of computer science or a high school student, but the 5 minutes of publicity are extremely important to the "main" professor, in order to receive the next commission, subsidy, NSRF that will finance the Lifestyle of the next 2 years.
⇑ Of course, the “collaborating” students also need to be fed! You can't keep them hungry for life, simply for fear of their grades in the classes. A few euros (450€ should I leave it?) are enough to buy their silence! Business as usual!
⇓Of course, with so many Security Experts gathered in Greece, I am particularly impressed that they did not detect even one of the countless attacks on Ministries, daily SQL Injection attacks by "wannabe" hackers on companies , leaks of personal data databases, etc., etc.
⇔ Not even the hit on a system bank, which due to an outdated version of the IIS webserver was the ideal Playground for hackers from the FAR EAST and beyond! (do we really all know about Windows Update or the use of System Center Configuration Manager? Or even the use of a properly configured WAF)
⊕Not to mention that no one has made even a small report on active POS Malware in Greece, which ladies and gentlemen exist and not only exist but are extremely effective. I probably shouldn't use my debit card anymore, despite the government's wise efforts. At least until the issue is resolved or at least reported by the banks properly and they don't continue to hide it under the rug!
⇑In a Greece that in no way promotes cooperation in any field (political, technological, corporate), we need to wake up, ladies and gentlemen! And this is what this SecLeaks column. Thank you.
