Huawei has surprised the competition over the past two years by becoming the number 3 smartphone manufacturer. This is not a small achievement that it accomplished on its own, but if we consider that it became possible in just a few years, we realize that it is truly a massive achievement.
However, few know that Huawei owes this explosive growth in part to its employees, who seem to be very dedicated to their work.
According to the Wall Street Journal, company insiders claim that Huawei's new top spot among the world's largest smartphone manufacturers is the result of employees' willingness to sacrifice their vacations, work overtime and sometimes risk their lives to promote the corporate cause.
Led by Ren Zhengfei, Huawei aims to surpass Samsung and Apple to become the world's largest smartphone manufacturer within the next five years.
Zhengfei managed to instill a specific work philosophy among Huawei employees, as many of them have become so willing to skip vacations and work overtime without demanding extra pay, which is truly incredible.
Many employees think and act like Meng Bo, a junior Huawei employee who believes that "if you devote yourself to the company, the company will not disappoint you". Another example of dedication concerns Chinese Huawei workers in WES African countries who refused to leave the company during the 2014 Ebola epidemic, while other companies were evacuated. Later they were rewarded with special allowances.
«When a crisis erupts, you will find Huawei employees heading towards it» while others leave, said the President of the company Sun Yafang at the company's annual report in 2015.
Furthermore, Chinese staff may agree to sign a special employee agreement that explicitly states that they voluntarily forgo vacation days and overtime. Those who sign the agreement will begin receiving shares as part of their compensation.
In the meantime, the Chinese company has started to soften its strategy abroad since many employees are located outside of China, so they have been offered better conditions in an effort to attract more employees.
