Bad news for Samsung since its request to the American Court to overturn the imposition of damages on Apple was rejected. Why does Samsung have to compensate Apple? Of course, because of their eternal dispute over patents that have often led the giants to court.
The conflicts between the two companies are legendary and endless. Countless lawsuits have been filed in recent decades, the most recent in 2014 when the court found both giants guilty of violating the patents of their respective rivals.
While Apple requested 2.07 million euros in damages, the court ordered the South Korean company to pay 112.37 million for violating three of Apple's patents.
On the other hand, Apple will only pay 148.83 euros in damages for violating Samsung's patent. The difference in the amounts that the two giants are required to pay certainly does not go unnoticed.
Samsung decides to appeal and turn the verdict in its favor at the beginning of the year, something that Apple does not let stand for long, requesting a retrial of the issue before the final court, thus overturning the result and turning the verdict in its favor again.
The South Korean company is appealing to the US Court of Appeals to be cleared of the charge but is not vindicated. Therefore, Samsung's last resort is the Supreme Court and the hope that this time justice will shine.
The trial at the Supreme Court is expected to take place next June, when the final decision will be made. It remains to be seen whether Samsung will ultimately pay 112.37 million euros to Apple.
