A month after updating its satellite imagery with higher-resolution photos, Google is redesigning its road maps to make them easier to read.
The company says its goal was to visually balance its maps by placing information on them without being overwhelming, removing elements “that are not absolutely necessary.” It has also changed the typography to emphasize key areas of interest and make them stand out more.
Speaking of areas of interest, Google helps you by highlighting places you might want to visit by shading them in orange. You can then zoom in on an orange area to find more information.
Google says that determining "areas of interest" is done through an algorithm that measures the concentrations of businesses around an area, etc.
