New MacOS Sierra: Apple announced the new iOS, OS X, tvOS and watchOS at its annual WWDC (Worldwide Developer Conference) event immediately after the keynote speech.
There were a few big announcements at WWDC 2016, and one of them was the upcoming iOS 10 mobile (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch). But the biggest announcement was probably the new OS X.
It seems Apple is looking to end the Mac OS X cycle after the release of 10.11 El Capitan. The company decided it was time to change the version number in the name of the operating system that powers everything from MacBooks to iMacs to something new. So today Apple announced the upcoming macOS 10.12 "Sierra."
Yes, you read that right, macOS will be the new name for Apple's computer operating system, and the next major version has been named Sierra, after the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the western United States. MacOS Sierra will initially be available for testing as a public beta starting in July, so you can sign up today to get a notification when it goes live.
MacOS Sierra will feature several new features, starting with Siri for Mac, Yes, Apple computers are getting the digital assistant. The new operating system also brings end-to-end encryption to protect your data and privacy, Picture in Picture (PIP) support, a Universal Clipboard that will allow users to copy and paste content (text, images, photos, and videos) between devices. It also brings support for tabs in all Mac applications that support multiple windows, and support for desktop sharing,
Of course, there will be many more new features until the new macOS Sierra operating system is released later this fall.
