According to a recent study by Creative Strategies, 98 percent of iPhone users have used Siri, the virtual assistant that's been on every iPhone since the 4s. However, only 3 percent of Apple mobile device owners use the feature in public or in front of others.
“Public usage is down to 3% for iPhone users, who appear to feel uncomfortable talking on their devices,” the research firm says. “Even more exciting is that this is happening in the US, where consumers are accustomed to talking loudly on their phones.”
Also interesting is that while only 3% publicly use the virtual assistant Siri, the number doubles for those who use other digital assistants (Google Now, Cortana, etc.).
20 percent of respondents said they don't use the feature in public places because they feel uncomfortable talking on their phones with others around them.
Also notable is that Android users use their digital assistants in public more than any other group, and four times more than Siri users (12 percent).
Of course, iPhone owners use Siri, but mostly in the car, where the usage rate reaches 62 percent, which is almost double that of Android users (37 percent).
The results show that everyone is a little shy when talking on their phones in public, but none more so than Apple users.
