FireEye: Have you noticed that cyber attacks from Russia have increased? One explanation could be the sanctions imposed on it for Ukraine.
On the other hand, attacks from Iran have decreased in recent months, thanks to the recent nuclear agreement with Iran.
David DeWalt, chief executive of FireEye, said the changes show how the diplomatic landscape is influencing what happens in cyberspace, based on the findings of monitoring at least 50 hacking groups over the past three years.
FireEye monitors a total of 350 groups that carry out “thefts, and espionage”, according to DeWalt.
Hackers backed by the Russian government are reported to work closely with cybercriminals, actively targeting US retailers such as Target .
The security company estimates that the average time businesses need to detect attacks is 205 days, or about seven months, and that they need roughly one month (32 days) to respond to attacks. DeWalt cited, as examples, significant breaches such as that of eBay, Adobe, the U.S. Government Personnel Management Office, etc.
The stolen identities (logins) and software vulnerabilities are the two main tricks of hackers, DeWalt said during a briefing by FireΕye that took place in Madrid.
