E-cigarettes are being marketed as a somewhat healthier alternative to smoking, but according to a recent study, that's not exactly the case.

Evidence shows that, just like regular cigarettes, e-cigarettes cause damage to the lungs. Specifically, scientists report that certain chemical compounds contained in the liquid used in e-cigarettesaffect lung cells.
Speaking at a recent meeting of the American Thoracic Society International Conference, researchers detailed how these chemical compounds can have negative health effects.
More specifically, the flavorings added to the liquid of electronic cigarettes supposedly to make the smoking experience more enjoyable are very dangerous.
Of the 13 samples examined as part of the investigation, 5 were found to be potentially dangerous.
“In our study, we used human lung epithelial cells, and cell viability counts showed that 5 of the 13 flavors tested had adverse effects on the cells,” said researcher Temperance Rowell, as reported by EurekAlert.
The side effects mentioned prevent lung cells from functioning properly.
This particular news is expected to cause a storm of reactions from the companies that have recently been making money by exploiting the addiction caused by nicotine.
