Windows Phone 8.1 is coming on April 14th

Microsoft plans to release the Windows Phone 8.1 to developers in April. While the software company showed off a number of new features in the update during Build 2014, it didn't give an official date.

Neowin published an email stating that the Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview will be released on April 14. The Verge, on the other hand, confirms that this date is accurate, and that Microsoft does indeed intend to distribute Windows Phone 8.1 to developers on April 14.

Microsoft's Windows Phone 8.1 developer preview will allow owners to bypass the manufacturers and download updates directly from Microsoft. Microsoft seems to have used the term "developer preview," but anyone with a recent Windows Phone 8 device will be able to download and install the update. And of course, as we mentioned earlier, that won't take long. In about 2 weeks, the Windows Phone 8.1 update will be on all new Windows devices.

"Everyone with Windows Phone 8 should update to 8.1 this month"

Windows Phone 8.1 is designed as an update for existing devices, and includes a number of new features. The new Cortana service, Microsoft's digital personal assistant, should be included in the update, along with a new notification center, UI changes, and changes to key parts of the mobile operating system. With the release of the update on April 14, anyone with a Windows Phone 8 device will be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1.
