With the Whisper, you can share your secrets anonymously, and according to Mashable, the company is seeking $30 million in funding.
The funding round, reported by Re/code, comes just six months after the company raised $20 million. Re/code reports that multiple sources have put Whisper's latest valuation at around $200 million.
Whisper launched in 2012 and was slow to take off. Michael Heyward, the company's co-founder and CEO, told Mashable in a previous interview that "there was a time when they were getting 100 downloads a day."
The app, which allows users to share anonymously, eventually gained traction among college students and has gone mainstream in recent months. The service now has “millions” of users and 3.5 billion page views per month.
Earlier this week, multiple reports claimed that a similar app, Secret, founded by Google, had raised its price from $10 million to $50 million.
Jeremy Liew, a partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners and the first investor in Whisper, as well as Snapchat, explained the app's capabilities in a previous interview.
“I think Whisper has the potential to reach a scale on the web of 100 million users,” Liew said at the time.
