When people say "ring," it can mean anything from a mechanical component to jewelry, but the meaning conveyed in the latest invention from RHL Vision is different.
It may be another type of jewelry, at least directly related to this idea, but it is not worn like ordinary rings, which are worn on the index or even middle finger. However, this accessory is worn on the thumb, and this position is not considered decoration by everyone.
But the thumb is no coincidence. It allows users to use their other fingers as if they were buttons. This is an optical sensor built into the ring itself, called Fin, and can instantly detect gestures. A patent from Indian company RHLvision
The gestures are sent via Bluetooth to a connected device to be interpreted. And that connected device can be a TV, a computer, a smartphone, a video game, our car, or something else.
Fin is currently a project, and you can find it on IndieGoGo , where you can go and support them financially if you want to help this idea become a reality.
In the current version, Fin lets you control the music volume (by swiping your thumb down, for example), skip to the next track in a playlist (swipe your thumb across the palm of your opposite hand), etc.
In future versions, Fin will be able to do more things, thanks to the integration of a biometric sensor.
Also, a more flexible circuit with a smaller design will be used instead of the rather huge one depicted in the first photo (the final product is supposed to be a ring, and will not be a wearable electronic board on the wrist).
