Scientists in Australia claim to have created a new suit for divers at risk from sharks that can "blind" them.
A team of researchers from the University of Western Australia has joined forces with designers from Shark Attack Mitigation Systems to create special diving and swimming suits.
The suit has blue and white stripes and, according to the manufacturers, confuses sharks because they are color blind.
The creators claim that the suits could save the lives of those who swim and encounter sharks. The designs and colors of the suit are also available in adhesive tape for covering surfboards, etc.
While sharks are known to have a keen sense of smell, scientists believe that the final choice of attack is based on their vision. Sharks can constrict and dilate their pupils like humans. This structure lies behind the retina and reflects light because it is made up of plates coated with guanine, which reflects light.
The suits' designs have been tested on sharks in the ocean, but not worn by humans, as you'll see in the attached video. The tests will continue, but the creations are already selling for $495.
