Nadav Nirenberg, 27, from Brooklyn, New York, had to deal with an unpleasant situation on New Year's Eve. On his way to the New Year's Eve party, someone stole his iPhone 4. However, his ingenuity and his friends, along with the services of a dating site, brought the iPhone back to him.
That same night, Nirenberg received an email alert that the thief was using the 27-year-old's OkCupid account to find a girl. He logged into his account and saw all the messages and requests the thief had made, with his own photo and details. So he enlisted the help of a friend.
They went to Google, found a photo of a young woman with a bottomless bust smiling in front of a webcam, and used it to set up a fake profile, Miss Jennifer Gonzalez from Brooklyn. It took a few messages to the thief to arrange a meeting full of promises at the address Nirenberg gave the thief: his apartment address. The plan almost went awry when the thief asked for the phone number of the "hot" Jennifer. Nirenberg replied, "Ha ha ha, who's on the phone anymore?"
The thief seems to have agreed and at 7 pm that same day, he appeared at the apartment door, dressed, perfumed, holding a bottle of wine and ready for an… interesting evening. When the door opened, he saw a man in front of him and Nirenberg arrived behind him holding a hammer, threatening that if he did not give back the iPhone 4, he would beat him. The trick worked and the iPhone 4 was returned to its owner.
The 27-year-old didn't press charges against the thief because all he wanted was to get his device back. For the rest of us? Let's take a lesson in how to get our phones back. Gentlemen... that's how it's done.
