A very unique Bird House that uses a small Arduino programming and hardware specifically designed to warn the relevant authorities about forest fires before they get completely out of control.
Arduino's birdhouses are equipped with a solar panel, rechargeable battery, and a sensor , along with a 3G network connection. These allow the Bird House to send a location signal to local authorities if it detects a forest fire nearby.
The prototype Arduino houses designed by Ogilvy & Mather are currently being tested in the development stage before they start being placed in the countryside. Check out the video below to learn more about Arduino technology and how they work.
The Arduino website explains a little more about the inspiration behind the new Bird Houses.
The northern part of Spain, which is full of villages, vegetation and wildlife, is prone to fires. In fact, almost 40% of the land burned back in 2015. Unfortunately, when a fire breaks out in a remote area, it often goes unnoticed or is detected when the damage is already extensive. Due to these cases that are observed more and more frequently, the insurance company Generali decided to find a better solution for early detection.
