The Hyatt hotel team warns its visitors about a security breach in its customers' payment system.

The company said it had found malware affecting the system used for its hotels.

Hyatt's global president of operations, Chuck Floyd, said the problem had been fixed, but advised customers who had previously stayed at the hotel to check their bank statements for any unusual activity.

“From the moment we discovered the activity, we immediately started the investigation», he said.

The Hyatt team based in Chicago has 627 properties in its portfolio, although it said that only the 318 that are directly managed were affected by the malicious software, while the hotels that are franchises remained unaffected by the software.

The company does not state whether the malicious software has led to access to any customer's information, but said it has hired independent security experts on cyber matters to assist the investigation.

Hyatt has created a website to send updates to its customers.

“We have taken measures to strengthen security in our system, and customers can feel confident using payment cards at Hyatt hotels worldwide,” said Mr. Floyd.

Hyatt is not the first hotel group to admit that it had to deal with such a breach in its security systems.

Hilton, Mandarin Oriental, Starwood and Trump Collection are hotel chains that have also faced security issues with their customers' payment details in 2015
