Windows RT spotted running on Nokia's Lumia 520
They say that the RT version has no future in Microsoft's vision, so the operating system intended for tablets more or less died after the last update released in September of this year.
And yet, installing RT on other devices is still a tricky thing, especially when the devices in question are actually Windows Phones.
XDA member Wack0Distractor has managed to do this on a Lumia 520, showing screenshots of what appears to be the RT installation process being performed on that model.
In details offered in his post, Wack0Disractor explains that this is just a proof of concept and since he managed to get the Windows installer running on the device, he won't be going any further with the hack to get the full operating system for the phone.
He noted that the touchscreen doesn't work in this project, so additional work is required to load the drivers and RTs to be usable on Lumia 520s. Other hackers could continue the project, he said, and it's probably just a matter of time before that happens.
RT was more or less an experiment for Microsoft, as the operating system debuted in 2012 with the Surface RT, the first tablet in history . The same version of the operating system was used in the Surface 2, despite criticism from almost everyone who accused Microsoft of developing an operating system that looked like 8 but didn't fully run apps.
Microsoft never announced the death of RT, but the company slowly but surely abandoned it. This year, when Windows 10 was greenlit, RT only received a small update that included the original Start menu that Microsoft created in October 2014 for previous Windows 10 releases, as well as some other minor improvements.
But aside from this update, everyone believes that RT is a project , so being able to run on Windows Phone devices could open up new prospects.
