Microsoft has the worst performance in Antivirus tests Windows 8.1

Microsoft-Security-Essentials-Antivirus-za-izbegavanjeIf recent antivirus tests that put Microsoft at the top of the security chart make you think that MSE and Windows Defender are actually very effective against malware, think again.

This suggests a new series of tests conducted by the German institute AV-TEST, as Microsoft performed the worst when corporate products were put up against new malware.

The survey included enterprise security products tested in September and October 2015, with Bitdefender and Kaspersky Lab once again taking the top spot with maximum scores for protection, performance, and usability. Essentially, the two security products received 6 points for each of these tests, proving that they are extremely effective when it comes to blocking malware.

Trend Micro was next with 6 points for protection and usability, but only 5.5 points for performance, while F-Secure received the best for protection, but only scored 5.5 for performance and usability.

Microsoft Performance

Unfortunately for those who don't want to turn to third-party security software, but only the built-in solutions, Microsoft's applications once again lagged behind the rest, receiving the worst score of all the programs tested.

The company only received a 2.5 for protection, meaning it blocked less than half of the malware it was supposed to detect, and a 3.5 for performance. Usability is where Microsoft's enterprise security products really excel, so it's no surprise that it received a 6 out of 6 here.

Obviously, with Windows 10 now, the company is more focused on improving the security of its new operating system, but that doesn't necessarily mean Windows 8.1 should be abandoned. Redmont says security is one of its main concerns, but over the years, these kinds of tests have shown how bad the company's security products are compared to third-party ones.
