Europol's mammoth operation with several arrests

Authorities have arrested 49 cybercriminals following an international investigation, led by Europol, which was carried out in Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Georgia.

The operation took place in 58 properties from which the authorities found and seized laptops, hard drives, tablets, credit cards and cash, SIM cards, memory sticks, bank records, as well as files of sensitive personal data of individuals.

The operation was led by Europol's European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) and Eurojust, in cooperation with the Italian police (Polizia di Stato – Postal and Communications Police), the Spanish authorities, the Polish Investigation Federation, and the authorities of the United Kingdom. The team of authorities was based at Europol's offices in The Hague.

The individuals arrested are suspected of financial fraud amounting to 6 million euros, while the group's targets were medium and large European companies, which they attacked through malware and sophisticated social engineering techniques.
