The IRS breach exposed the tax returns of 100,000 taxpayers, as well as other data. The online service 'Get Transcript' was breached between February and mid-May.
The tax returns of more than 100,000 American taxpayers have been exposed in a breach of the Internal Revenue Service 's online service called "Get Transcript," according to the agency's announcement a few days ago.

Tax returns include a diverse set of sensitive information about individuals, including social security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, spouse identification information, and employment details.
Representatives told the Associated Press that the attackers made about 200,000 attempts to gain access to the files through the service, “with more than 100,000 of those attempts successfully bypassing validation barriers.”
Successful validation requires a variety of information about the taxpayer, meaning you must know a lot about them, such as their social security number, date of birth, tax filing status, and residential address, according to the representatives' statements.
The representatives claim that the breach must have occurred between February and mid-May. They have not provided any evidence yet.
