A suspected hacker, who is alleged to have stolen data from the global communications system used by the US Department of Defense (DoD), has been arrested by National Crime Agency agents in the United Kingdom.
The suspect allegedly breached the DoD computer network on June 15, 2014, and extracted information from Enhanced Mobile Satellite Services, a communications system used to communicate with DoD employees around the world via email or telephone.
Although the incident did not result in the loss of sensitive information, it appears that the suspect managed to obtain data such as names, titles, email addresses and phone numbers from 800 people, as well as the IMEI codes for approximately 34,400 devices, both mobile and satellite.
The NCA did not reveal the suspect's name. In a statement announcing the arrest on Friday, the British agency said officers from the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) had the suspect under surveillance since March 4 in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.
The young suspect boasted about his achievement and even posted images of the DoD network's admin panel on Pastebin . In his message, he even mentions the now-famous hacker group Lizard Squad.
