VLC app has seen multiple entries and exits from the App Store, with its developers reluctant to admit it. After the release of iOS 8, it saw its exit once again.
It's unclear exactly when this happened, but VLC for iOS is no longer available in the App Store, nor is it available on our iPhones after the implementation of iOS 8.
While it's typical for Apple to remove apps without explanation, the app developer is expected to fill in the gaps. However, VideoLAN hasn't said a word about it. The group's forum already has a few threads open on the subject, but none of the team members have bothered to answer the question: why VLC for iOS no longer in the App Store?
We checked Twitter and other social networks where the team members are active and nothing.
After further investigation, we can confirm that VLC has indeed disappeared from the App Store.
Unfortunately, there has always been uncertainty surrounding VLC for iOS. Apple has removed it several times and on several occasions for non-compliance with the rules.
For their part, the VideoLAN team has let their user base down several times. Whenever upgrades are required, they often fail to deliver on their promise and, even worse, fail to communicate their plans.
While it's sad to see VLC missing from the App Store once again, all is not lost. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of other video apps based on the same code that VLC uses, so you can just head to the App Store, browse around a bit, and take your pick.
