A new tech group including Facebook and Google has rejected the latest draft of US legislation that aims to lay the groundwork for surveillance by the National Security Agency.
The administration of US President Barack Obama said on Wednesday that it supported the swift passage of the USA Freedom Act by the US House of Representatives and called on the Senate to follow suit.
“Overall, the bill’s significant reforms will provide the public with greater confidence in our programs and the checks and balances in the system,” the White House said in a statement. But the tech companies, which also include Yahoo, AOL, Apple ,Microsoft, Twitter and LinkedIn, have said in a statement that the latest plan opens “the door that could allow for the collection of a greater share of Internet user data.”
