Fake Kaspersky apps detected in Windows Phone Store and Google Play

Fake-Kaspersky-Apps-Discovered-on-Windows-Phone-Store-and-Google-Play

Kaspersky Lab researchers have identified fake mobile security apps available through the Windows Phone Store and Google Play that exploit the Kaspersky name.

The fake apps that have been uploaded to popular online stores are not necessarily malicious, however they appear to have no functionality and are simply aimed at profit.

The fake app found in the Windows Phone Store is called “Kaspersky Mobile,” costs around $4.3 (€3.1) and has nothing to do with the security.

The same cybercriminals have uploaded many fake apps to the Windows Phone Store that masquerade as legitimate programs, including Mozilla Mobile, Avira Antivir, Netscape Mobile, Google Chrome Pro, Opera Mobile, Internet Explorer and Virus Shield.

On Google Play, experts have found an app named “Kaspersky Anti – Virus 2014”. This particular app is not naturally related to the company in any way. The real Kaspersky security solution for mobile is called Kaspersky Internet Security for Android.

“The fake app does absolutely nothing to protect the user’s device – the creators didn’t even bother to add a fake scanner,” says Kaspersky Lab researcher Roman Unuchek.
