The Ministry of Administrative Reform & E-Government is organizing the "Open Public Data Hackathon", inviting scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, civil servants, students, pupils, to participate for the first time in a competitive process for the exploitation of public data. On the weekend of 26 – 27 April 2014, Harokopio University will be a meeting place for those participants interested in collaborating in the development of digital applications.
The deadline for submitting an application for participation ends tomorrow, April 23. Participants will also be able to submit original applications until April 30, according to the terms of the competition.
Participants have the opportunity to utilize open public data that has been collected and made available online at data.gov.gr, in order to develop innovative applications and value-added services, contributing to the production and transfer of knowledge.
Transforming Information into Business: This is the message of the "Open Public Data Hackathon" competition, which aspires to attract intense interest and broad participation of citizens, based on innovation and creativity by utilizing open public data. This is an open call to all, in order to actively participate and support actions and initiatives that enhance extroversion, cooperation, and the emergence of new innovations.
The aim of the “Open Public Data Hackathon” is to develop innovation and creativity based on open data. The Hackathon aspires to gather the interest of open source developers, members of the academic and student community, citizens, and businesses of all sizes.
The presentation of the applications and the selection of the winners will take place on May 6 at a special awards ceremony. The prize is for the 1st prize: 3,000 euros – 2nd: 2,000 euros – 3rd: 1,000 euros. From the competition process, the public bodies whose most datasets were utilized will be selected without a prize.
The initiative is implemented with the support and collaboration of the Higher School of Pedagogical and Technological Education (ASPETE). The action is also supported by Harokopio University and the non-profit Free Software - Open Source Software Association (ESO/LAK).
