According to a report by The Washington Post, the National Security Agency has the ability to record “100 percent” of phone calls made in a foreign country and play them back up to a month later.
Known as MYSTIC, the surveillance system dates back to 2009, according to documents provided to the newspaper by former NSAEdward Snowden. The program, which was not fully operational until 2011, monitors, records and stores billions of calls for 30 days, with older recordings being overwritten by new ones.
