Attica Security dismantled a ring that was distributing mobile phone connection packages from various companies, without identifying the owners and users, through three mobile phone stores in the center of Athens.
Security is investigating the possibility that many of these connections have ended up with criminal groups, while it appears that they have even been trafficked illegally within prisons.
Security forces have already targeted specific individuals with connections to criminal groups. They are investigating whether they have used similar mobile phones for criminal acts, including kidnappings.
6 members of the gang were arrested. They are 3 foreigners (27, 30 and 46 years old), a 26-year-old Greek man, and two Greek women (24 and 41 years old). The 46-year-old is the owner of one of the 3 stores and the rest are employees.
Two foreigners, aged 34 and 43, owners of the other 2 stores, as well as those who supplied the arrested with connection packages and an unknown number of recipients, are still being sought.
How did the circuit work?
After several days of investigations by the Department of Property Rights Protection, the three stores that were distributing the packages in question were located in the center of Athens. According to the police announcement, as emerged from the investigation, the owners of the stores were purchasing the packages without receipts and selling them without the required identification of the owners and users and without carrying out identification of the identity details during the transfer from the initial activation subscriber to the end user.
As stated in the announcement, such mobile phone connections, with owner details of real or non-existent persons, mainly foreigners, are used to commit criminal acts.
In searches carried out at the three stores, a total of 215 mobile telephony connection packages were found and seized, as well as the sum of 5,355 euros.
The arrested were taken to the Athens Criminal Court Prosecutor's Office.
