Crowding was observed in the last days of January at the banks, where taxpayers had to pay five taxes by the end of the month. However, many of those who rushed to the banks appear today on Taxisnet to have overdue debts, and therefore cannot obtain tax clearance!
Beyond that, many taxpayers fear they will be unfairly burdened with surcharges and fines, or lose their arrangement, or even face seizures, because Taxisnet… is dormant and hasn't yet been updated on the payment of their debts.
According to reporting by «Ημερησίας», taxpayers who visited their tax office to protest were informed by the DOY employees that the system which updates the services about tax settlements now made in full at the banks operates at …turtle speed. The information systems of the Ministry of Finance are updated about payments made through the banks with a large delay that can even reach 2 or 3 weeks.
As tax officials explain, every day banks issue detailed catalogs with data (VAT number, Debt Identity, settled amount) for all payments made and send them to the Tax Authority, either electronically or in paper form by mail. Subsequently, the Tax Authority employees record the payments listed in the catalogs one by one, so that the information systems (Taxis and Taxisnet) are updated for all early payments. Completing such a process takes many days. This is because, to record the details of each payment, the employee must log into the system, issue a handwritten duplicate receipt based on the data sent by the bank, certify the duplicate, and issue an Individual Debt Deletion Sheet, so that the settled amount is credited and the debt is removed from the Taxis computer.
