Google has been steadily expanding Gemini's capabilities, integrating it into various aspects of the Android ecosystem — from replacing Google Assistant on Android phones to bringing it to car dashboards via Android Auto. Now, it looks like Gemini is ready to get a new feature to manage video uploads.

Currently, Gemini can already process and summarize web pages, images, PDFs, and even YouTube videoswhen given a link. However, there was no option to directly upload video files for analysis. That may change soon, as new evidence suggests that Google is developing support for video attachments.
In the latest beta version of the Google app (16.9.39.sa.arm64), hidden strings referring to video uploads were discovered in the Gemini chat interface. These strings suggest that users may soon be able to attach videos to chats, see the length of the video, and play the uploaded files.
Currently, the file attachment menu in Gemini on Android does not allow video uploads, and selecting a video from the file picker is not supported. However, in tests conducted, there was the ability to attach a video to a Gemini chat. Of course, the AI was unable to analyze the file – possibly because the feature is still under development or because the current model of Gemini does not yet support direct video analysis.

As the screenshots show, the attached video appeared in the chat with a duration indicator and a play button, although playback was not functional. It is also unknown whether Google plans to impose restrictions on video uploads, such as duration or file size limits, but it is reasonable to expect some restrictions, at least in the initial release.
The ability to upload videos could be a promising upgrade for Gemini users. Imagine uploading a recorded lecture and getting a summary, analyzing a security camera clip, or having Gemini evaluate your social media. It could also be useful for troubleshooting technical issues, where someone could simply upload a video and Gemini could help diagnose problems.

When can we expect the feature to roll out? Given Google's recent practice of constantly introducing new features to Gemini, it seems likely that video upload support will arrive sooner. What remains unclear is whether this feature will be available to all users or limited to Gemini Advanced subscribers .
