Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold review!

In recent weeks, there have been numerous leaks revealing every aspect of Google.

However, the company's second-generation foldable phone has so far managed to maintain a good amount of coverage ahead of next month's product event. That was until now! According to Android Authority, new photos from Taiwan's National Communications Commission (NCC) have fully revealed the Pixel Fold 2 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The images confirm that Google is moving away from the short, bulky, passport-style design that characterized the original Pixel Fold, differentiating it from Samsung's tall, narrow Galaxy Fold. Now, we're getting closer to something closer to the OnePlus Open. The external display still looks very useful in terms of the desktop it provides, but it's definitely taller than before.

The photos also confirm that the 9 Pro Fold will lose Google’s signature camera notch. The new camera design is hard to describe, but it looks large enough to prevent the phone from wobbling annoyingly when placed on a table. As for the internal display, its aspect ratio is noticeably larger and narrower compared to the original Fold, and it looks like Google has managed to reduce the bezels.

The compromise here is that the internal camera is now located in a notch at the top left of the screen, whereas previously it was built into the frame, thus offering an uninterrupted display.

Another thing we're a little wary of is the battery. Google is apparently going with a slightly smaller capacity (4,560 mAh) this time around, and the original Pixel Fold (4,727 mAh) isn't exactly known for its longevity. Perhaps the company's latest processor will help make up for that with better performance.

I've been using the Pixel Fold as my everyday device for much of the past year. There's something about it that still makes it stand out. Sure, the screen brightness wasn't as impressive compared to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, the speakers aren't the best sound quality, and many app developers never bothered to optimize their software for this device. Hopefully, the second version will fix some of these shortcomings, offering a better overall package — though its price will likely remain above $2,000.

Also revealed is a new 45-watt USB-C charger, which will likely ship with at least some of these devices. The new charger is much more rounded compared to the current charger that Google has included with Pixel in recent years.
