Google Contacts is an app that is considered essential for the majority of users, as it stores all the basic information about hundreds of friends and colleagues, both from Gmail and from the phone . So, we are essentially talking about a contact management service. It is available as an Android mobile app, a web app, or in the Gmail sidebar as part of Google Workspace . Until now, the Android app offered the basics, such as options to merge or group contacts and favorites. But it did not provide a more personalized view. Now, however, Google is changing that by adding a new “ Highlights ” tab to the Google Contacts app for Android , which will allow users to find the people they communicate with most often more quickly, making it easier to communicate with them.

The Google Contacts app with the new “Highlights” tab, allows users to instantly see their favorite contacts and their most recent searches. The previous two tabs have remained the same: the main one displays all contacts in chronological order, highlighting favorites at the top, while the other is for merging duplicate apps, restoring deleted entries, and exporting/importing contacts.
With this change, Google Contacts is now a three-tab app.
In the new Highlights, users can see two sections. The top is occupied by Favorites, displaying starred contacts for quick access to all their details. It’s worth noting that it can be synced with your favorites from Google, but there’s the option to add new favorite contacts from here, using the “Add” button in the top right corner.

The second section, Recents, is divided into two separate parts, to display the contacts you have recently viewed and the last contacts you have added. At this point, you have the option to delete your recent searches.
The Google Contacts upgrade with the Highlights tab is not currently offered by default. But since it's a useful feature, the new tab will soon be available to many users.
