How to Clean a Mousepad

Mousepads don't usually show how dirty they are, but that doesn't mean they don't harbor all sorts of germs. Whether used for work or gaming, mousepads get dirty a lot, so they definitely need a good cleaning.

Fortunately, cleaning a mousepad is not a difficult task. The following method can be used for any cloth or plastic mousepad that does not include any type of technology, such as a USB.

First, soak the mousepad in the sink or in a bowl filled with water and a mild soap. A nice, mild shampoo or even hand soap will do the job.

Using a soft brush, sponge, or towel, gently scrub the mousepad.

Rinse the mousepad with cold water until all the soap is gone.

Finally, dry the mousepad with a clean towel. Allow it to dry completely in a well-ventilated area before using it again. You should leave it for at least 24 hours.

Some cloth mousepads are even machine washable. If this is the case with yours, follow these steps:

Place the mousepad in the washing machine and add a small amount of detergent.

Using only cold water, run the machine on a gentle cycle.

Remove it from the washing machine and then let it dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24 hours.

Plastic mousepads can be cleaned quickly, no water required. Try this method:

Using a cleaning spray, lightly spray the surface of the plastic mousepad.

Wipe the cleaning spray off with a clean cloth. If any areas are visibly dirty, rub a little more.

Complete the cleaning with a disinfectant wipe.

Let it air dry before using the mousepad again.

There is no strict rule about how often you should clean your mousepad, but it should be done at least once every three months, as well as if you have recently had an illness.
