YouTube for Android: You'll be able to do more in fullscreen

YouTube is tending to revamp its website and mobile apps component by component. The latest example of this is a major redesign, especially in fullscreen mode, of the video player on YouTube for Android.

The main difference is a series of buttons at the bottom of the screen that let you like, dislike, open comments in the right sidebar, save to playlist, and share. On the right is a prominent “More Videos” shortcut with thumbnail previews that opens the usual carousel of other things to watch. It maps to the Up Next queue.

As a result of these new actions, the video timeline/seek bar moves upward, which is a secondary advantage of this redesign.

Elsewhere, you will notice that YouTube has replaced the overflow button of the three dots with a simpler settings tool when viewing in both landscape and portrait orientation. Otherwise, there are no changes to this menu today. Finally, clicking the chevron next to the video title will open the side panel “Description”.

This redesign of YouTube's video player on Android is rolling out widely today — the iOS hasn't been updated yet. Overall, it lets you do more with the fullscreen UI for a better content-focused experience.
