If you've ever searched for a transparent image on Google, you've probably come across a lot of "fake" ones. You save an image only to realize that the squared background is solid. Luckily, there's a simple little trick in Google Images to avoid that.

For those unfamiliar with this phenomenon, let me explain. Images that have transparency often depict it using a gray and white checkered pattern. The idea is that you can see which parts of the image will be transparent before saving it.
What exactly do we mean: You search for an image, perhaps a logo with a transparent background, and you see a result like this:

It looks like the background behind the Microsoft logo will be transparent when you save the image, but here's how a black border was added:

The checkered pattern is the background. There is no transparency. Here's how you can prevent that from happening.
Go to Google Images in your computer's web browser (like Chrome or Microsoft Edge ) and search for something with transparency. Unfortunately, this doesn't work on Google's mobile site

Then, click on “Tools” below the search bar.

A toolbar will expand with some additional options. Select “Color”.

From the drop-down menu, select “Transparent”.

You're done! All results will now be images that contain at least partial transparency.

The photo below is a truly transparent image.
