LibreOffice is one of the best alternatives to Microsoft Office. In addition to being free, the application is compatible with more operating systems. Recently, the new version 7.0 was announced, which contains improvements in the performance and management of the application.
According to the development team, version 7 is stable and ready to replace LibreOffice 6.4. In addition to all the improvements, version 7 also contains some bug fixes, which will resolve some errors present in the old version.
What changes does LibreOffice 7.0 contain?
One of the most important changes in the latest version is support for “Open Document Format” (ODF) files. Thanks to the new support, users can use digital signatures on encrypted XML files.
Additionally, LibreOffice 7.0 includes the Skia graphics engine, which, when combined with Vulkan, significantly increases the application's performance. In addition, users can use the Skia 2D library to create various shapes and insert photos into their files.
Another important change is the new way to manage and save various office, such as DOCX, XLSX and PPTX. For example, instead of saving using 2007 compatibility mode, LibreOffice can now save files in all 2013/2016/2019 modes. Along with this change, some problems with XLSX files have been solved, for example, support for checkboxes, as well as the bug with long names in files with multiple sheets.
Speaking of the app's appearance, version 7.0 brings a new Sakapura theme for macOS users. However, Colibre remains the default theme on Windows, but it features a refreshed look and icons similar to those of MS Office.
