The new Kali Linux v2020.2 has been released. This is the second version of the operating system for 2020. However, in this version, we will not see as many changes and improvements in performance as we saw in the previous one. The main goal of the v2020.2 version is to renew and improve the graphical environment of the system. Below, we mention the most important changes.
Kali Linux installer:
In the previous version v2020.1, the manufacturers of the operating system removed the ability to download ISO files with different graphical environments. However, users could choose the graphical environment and default packages during the installation of the system. Unfortunately, this change led users to install all the system packages, resulting in the operating system taking a long time to install.

For this reason, in the latest version, the above option was removed. Now, all the system packages, as well as all the graphical environments, are contained in the ISO file. Thus, the operating system takes much less time to install, as the necessary packages do not have to be downloaded. One disadvantage, however, is the larger size of the ISO file.
Changes to the Desktop and its theme:

In previous versions of the operating system, dark themes were added for the GNOME and Xfce desktops. In this release, the variant theme has found its way to the KDE Plasma Desktop.

Additionally, Kali Linux includes the latest version of GNOME, known as 3.36, which includes performance improvements as well as many new features. In addition to changes to themes and graphical environments, the new Kali Linux also comes with a revamped login screen.
PowerShell as default package:

If you are using PowerShell, you no longer need to install from the Kali Linux repository. The necessary PowerShell packages are now available in the default packages during installation. However, if you wish to install PowerShell as before, you can do so using the command:
sudo apt install -y kali-linux-large
In addition to the above, version v2020.2 also contains:
- OpenPlus 3T ISO
- Nexmon support on mobile devices
- Python 3.8
- New logos
- Default non-root policy for ARM distributions
- At least 16GB memory card for ARM devices
Installation method:
Kali Linux is one of the largest rolling distributions. This means that all you have to do, if you already have Kali Linux installed, is type:
sudo apt update && sudo apt -y full-upgrade
