Recently, Microsoft announced that it will soon release its new icons for the Mail and Calendar to Windows 10 Insiders, while Windows 10 users will have the opportunity to see the new system icons in the coming months.
This is a rather unexpected move from Microsoft, as the company seems to be releasing these changes much sooner than was believed.
According to a report by Bleepingcomputer, the new Fluent icons for the Calendar, Mail, File Explorer, Your Phone, and One Drive have already started rolling out in Windows 10 1909.
The new icons for Windows 10use the Fluent Design System, a system that, as Microsoft states, "introduces depth and color to our iconography."
The Fluent Design system offers the ability to create a user interface, cross-platform for Android, Windows, iOS and other web applications. The icons are familiar, beautiful and inclusive to provide the perfect cross-platform experience.
Microsoft also confirmed that when updating the system, they "did not move away from the established iconography."
In essence, Microsoft expanded the language while maintaining a common “DNA” for the icons. This happens because people want consistency and connection with a brand. However, they also want to recognize the difference between applications.
