Elementary OS: interim version 5.1.4 released

After the release of Ubuntu 20.04, many of the operating systems based on it are struggling to create new versions that will use the latest version of Ubuntu. One of these systems is the upcoming Elementary OS 6. Until that is released, however, the developers decided to update the Elementary 5.1 'Hera' version, implementing some improvements. The result is the interim Elementary OS v5.1.4.

The new version of Elementary OS contains a revamped app menu, renamed apps, system performance improvements, and some new features in the system settings.

What's new in Elementary OS 5.1.4?

As we mentioned above, one of the changes in this versionis the renaming of the Parental control, which is now called “Screen Time & Limits”. In addition to this, the application is now also addressed to your personal account. This means that you can now set rules on your own account as you have applied, so far, to third-party accounts in the system.

Another feature of the new version of Elementary OS is the ability to search for settings. Until now, for many users it was very difficult to find some system settings. Now, however, the operating system support team has added the ability to search for settings by their name. Even if we don't know exactly what these settings are called, the system will display all similar results related to what we are looking for.

In addition to the above changes, the new version also includes several improvements to searching and launching applications from the application menu. In addition, the menu also provides a refreshed look, as applications are now displayed in a list rather than a grid.

Additionally, the latest version of Elementary OS addresses the following issues:

  • It does not allow the system to enter suspend mode when updating the flatpack and system updates at the same time.
  • The disappearance of windows when using multiple workspaces.
  • The problem with the login and lock screen details.

System Installation/Update:

If you're already using Elementary OS, all you need to do to update the operating system is open the AppCenter and tap "Update All." Otherwise, you can download an installation file, then install from a bootable USB.
