Is Linux the most vulnerable operating system after Android?

Generally speaking, Microsoft 's Windows is considered one of the most vulnerable operating systems, either due to its popularity or the design of its kernel . However, a study conducted by theBestVPN.com is here to change that a bit .

As discovered by the research, Debian Linux tops the list of operating systems with the highest number of flaws. Over the past 20 years, Debian Linux has reported 3,067 technical vulnerabilities. In 2019, Debian was the second most vulnerable operating system, after Android, with 360 bugs.

According to the report, a technical vulnerability is a feature or configuration that attackers can exploit to gain unauthorized access or use a network and its resources for their own benefit.

The report gathered its data from the National Vulnerability Database. According to the report, Ubuntu ranked fifth, with 2,007 bugs discovered between 1999 and 2019.

Linux

Linux-based products have the biggest flaws

If we take into account all products, 894 technical defects were reported in 1999. However, with the development of technology, this number reached 12,174 in 2019.

In 2018, the most bugs, 16,556 in number, with Debian GNU/Linux having 1,197 of them.

In terms of exploiting these vulnerabilities to carry out an attack, code execution accounts for the largest percentage, at 25.3%, followed by cross-site scripting, at 17.7%. Recently, new methods have also been discovered that malicious actors use to exploit Linux systems, such as cloud snooping and RCE vulnerabilities.

Considering the overall result, no Linux-related vulnerabilities fall into the top high-risk products. This means that there are no Linux-based distributions or products that hackers use to damage the system on a large scale

The bugs in the Linux operating system may be more in number, but they can be fixed within a few days. Linux has a very strong community and continues to grow with time and support from large private entities like Microsoft.
