It may not be something we've noticed, but the 2010s definitely belong to Facebook.
According to analytics firm App Annie, which released its list of the 10 most popular mobile apps from 2010 to 2020, Facebook has dominated the list. Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp , and Instagram were the four most downloaded apps on Android and iOS devices from 2010 to 2020. All four come from the same company.
The list of the most popular applications is as follows:
- Messenger
- Snapchat
- Skype
- TikTok
- UC Browser
- YouTube
It's clear that Facebook is a part of our daily lives. The company's two main apps have billions of users, while Instagram and WhatsApp are also very popular.
It also seems that Facebook has become such an important part of people's routines that most users have not abandoned its platform, even after the brutal scandals that have come to light in recent years. Indeed, the sheer size and scope of the business have attracted many proposals to abolish it, from presidential candidates such as Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
As for the rest of the top 10 apps of the decade, very few of them are surprising in these spots. The well-known Snapchat and Twitter made an appearance on the list, while TikTok also managed to earn a spot, following its sweeping popularity at the end of the decade. The only app on the list that isn't as well-known is UC Browser, a web browser based on Alibaba that's particularly popular in Asia.
