Facebook's reputation as one of the best companies to work for is starting to falter, at least according to a Glassdoorof the best companies to work for, based on anonymous employee ratings.
Glassdoor has released its 2020 “Best Places to Work” list, which compiles anonymous employee ratings and reviews, although the actual ranking is determined by a special company algorithm
Facebook fell to No. 23 on this year's list of the 100 Best Companies, down from No. 7 in 2019 and No. 1 in 2018.This is the lowest position it has ever taken on Glassdoor's list. The first year it was included on the list, in 2011, it held the top spot and has continued to be near the top since then, except in 2015, when it fell to No. 13.
A Glassdoor spokesperson noted that Facebook's overall rating (4.4) is still higher than the site's average (3.5) and that making it onto Glassdoor's list is "an incredible honor" for a company.
Furthermore, this decline is another sign that the company has fallen in the last two years due to the scandals that have erupted, which are undermining even the benefits that employees who work for Facebook have.
“Facebook is legendary for the perks it gives its employees,” Glassdoor said the last time Facebook topped the list. “Free meals and snacks, health and dental care, laundry services, and four months of paid parental leave are some of the most notable benefits.”
But privacy scandals, investigations and other missteps in recent years have dented the company's image. CNBC reported earlier this year that the company is struggling to attract candidates from top universities in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica.
In addition to Facebook, of course, both Google and Apple have also slipped to lower positions since last year. Google fell from No. 8 to No. 11 and Apple sank from No. 71 to No. 84.
Only two technology companies have managed to top Glassdoor's list, including HubSpot (No. 1) and DocuSign (No. 3). Other companies in the top 10 include consulting firm Bain & Company (No. 2), fast food chain In-N-Out Burger (No. 4) and Southwest Airlines (No. 10).
