Messaging app WhatsApp has announced that will device users Android be able to lock the app using biometric technology , specifically the fingerprint soon .
The fingerprint support announcement was made yesterday. The feature was already available for iOS.
To enable the new feature, users need to follow the following process: Settings -> Account -> Privacy -> Fingerprint lock. If users do the above process, they will need to use their fingerprint to open the app.

According to WhatsApp's announcement, users will be able to choose theamount of time it takes for the app to automatically lock. This means they won't be constantly prompted to unlock the app if they don't want to.
Additionally, phone calls will not be affected by the new feature (they will not be blocked).
As we mentioned above, iOS users already use fingerprint authentication. The messaging app adopted Apple Touch ID and Face ID biometrics 's earlier this year. iPhone users running iOS 9 (and above) can enable Touch ID and Face ID by opening WhatsApp and following these steps: Settings -> Account -> Privacy -> Screen Lock.
