If you're part of the Linux on DeX, it's probably time to start backing up data .
According to an email received by users who were part of the program from Samsung, the company announced to them that it has ended the beta program and “no longer provides support for future operating system and device.”
This means that none of Samsung's devices will offer support for Linux on DeX after updating to Android 10. The email also states that users of the program will not be able to enable Android 9 Pieafter the update.
What is Linux on DeX?
For those who don't know, Samsung originally launched DeX on the Galaxy S8. The feature allowed users to bring a desktop.
While it doesn't quite live up to a full desktop environment, it helps users with specific tasks like opening Android on a large screen, opening and editing documents with ease, multitasking with split-screen, and more.
Last November, the company launched a private beta test for Linux on DeX. The idea was to bring the GNU/Linux distribution to a phone device. Linux on DeX is powered by Ubuntu.
Samsung DeX is functional
And while the feature may have disappointed Linux fans , it's not that bad. The regular DeX feature still exists.
This means that once users leave the beta version, they will be able to use the regular DeX mode.
As for Linux fans, they can still use Linux on DeX, as long as they don't update their device to the latest Android version.
It seems that the last quarter of 2019 is a difficult time for the largest smartphone.
Recently, Samsung made a shocking revelation that the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on its devices, such as the Galaxy S10 and Note 10, can be bypassed via a silicon screen protector.
