6 threats to CCTV cameras and how to deal with them

CCTV

  1. Lightning damage

During the rainy months, lightning is one of the biggest dangers that CCTV cameras face. If a lightning bolt hits the camera , it can completely destroy it. And a damaged camera can prove dangerous as it leaves your space unprotected from intruders.

Solution:

CCTV cameras can attract lightning, as they are electronic devices. Using a lightning rod on the roof of the building could be a possible solution to this problem. Another solution to avoid lightning damage is to use well-insulated cables and a grounding system. A plastic housing over the CCTV camera can also be a very good solution.

  1. Damage from people

Someone who does not want to be recorded by securitycan easily sabotage an outdoor camera, either by destroying it with a sharp object or by covering it.

Solution:

Outdoor cameras should be mounted high enough so that they cannot be reached. To protect against stones and other objects thrown with the intention of breaking the camera, a housing can help. A metal or hard plastic frame, like a cage, that is fixed around the CCTV camera can protect it from breakage.

  1. Paint or other materials thrown to blur them

A very popular technique used by burglars is to blur the CCTV lenses with paint or other materials. Once the camera is blurred, they can easily escape detection.

Solution:

Place the camera in a spot where it cannot be attracted from a distance. This will force them to either stop their mission or appear on the camera in order to attract it enough to blur it.

  1. Hacking

A CCTV camera can also be hacked. Many hackers today use their skills to do numerous activities. They can hack a CCTV camera and have a complete picture of what is happening in a particular place.

Solution:

Hacking of CCTV cameras can be prevented by setting strong passwords on your wifi. You should also never reveal your password to anyone you don't know well. It is also a good practice to change your password frequently.

  1. Voltage fluctuations

Voltage fluctuations may occur sometimes. A very low or very high power supply can damage CCTV cameras. A sudden surge in voltage can cause a short circuit and therefore damage the CCTV and other devices.

Solution

Use voltage stabilizers at home so that fluctuations can be managed and any kind of damage to CCTV or other devices can be avoided. Another solution to the high voltage problem can be to use a transformer in the main switch of the house.

  1. Water

Any electronic device can be affected when it comes into contact with water. Water from rain or other sources, such as a leak from somewhere above the camera, can cause damage.

Solution:

Using a waterproof housing/case for your CCTV camera can solve the problem. You should also try to place your CCTV cameras in a place that is waterproof.
