China is home to the world's most effective facial recognition system. And now it has created a new device that will further enhance its ability to better monitor its surroundings. The reason is a new 500-megapixel cloud camera, powered by AI technology , which is capable of taking panoramic photos and depicting human faces in exquisite detail in a stadium filled with thousands of people. It can also create data of each face for the cloud . The device is powerful enough to identify one person among thousands of others, using the built-in facial recognition system, in a very short time.
The camera has been developed by scientists from Fudan University in Shanghai and the Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Changchun.
According to a report by China New Service, the 500-megapixel cloud camera can capture extremely detailed images. The camera integrates cloud computing, AI technology, real-time tracking capability, and facial recognition system to capture specific targets in a short period of time.
The team that created the camera has also developed two special chips that allow the device to record video at the same ultra-high resolution. The videos and photos captured by the 500-megapixel camera can be uploaded to a cloud data center, and the data can be easily obtained from anywhere in the world.
The camera has received mixed reviews from Chinese experts. Some praise the invention for its application in areas such as the military, defense , and national security, while others criticize the device, expressing concerns about privacy .
